This year’s Oscars nominees — Eddie Redmayne and Laura Dern — will co-host a luncheon to raise funds for 7,000 athletes. It is an international sporting competition for athletes with intellectual disabilities, organised by Special Olympics.
Redmayne, 33, and Dern will join Nicole Kidman, Maria Shriver and Gina Rodriguez to host the third annual Gold Meets Golden luncheon in LA on February 21, said The Hollywood Reporter.
Shriver is excited to continue the legacy of her mother, Special Olympics founder Eunice Kennedy Shriver.
“I am inspired to join with those who want to make a difference for the 7,000 Special Olympics athletes competing in the World Games this summer,” said Shriver in a statement.
Gold medal-winning Olympians and co-hosts Greg Louganis, Nadia Comaneci and Bart Conner will join in welcoming athletes to Los Angeles for the Special Olympics which are being held from July 25 to August 2.
Kidman, 47, returns as host for the second time since the inaugural lunch-eon in 2013, when she expressed her love for aquatic sports. Previous hosts of Gold Meets Golden include Keith Urban, Jon Bon Jovi, Kerry Washin-gton, Sofia Vergara and Hayden Panettiere.
While Redmayne is nominated in the best actor category for his perfor-mance in Steven Hawkings biopic ‘The Theory of Everything’, Dern, 47, is competing for the best supporting actress title for her role in ‘Wild’ at the Oscars, which will take place on February 22. (PTI)
