New Delhi:  BJP on Sunday said it was too early for Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to raise the full statehood issue, saying the AAP government already has “too many promises to fulfill”.
“If they have given any proposal to the Central government over full statehood, then the government will surely discuss it. This is too soon to take up any one issue to fulfill. At this moment they have too many promises to fulfill,” Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said.
Kejriwal, in his address to a massive crowd at the Ramlila Maidan after his swearing-in, said his government will work for full statehood of Delhi and also called for a “constructive cooperation” between the Centre and the state.
The newly-appointed chief minister in his speech also took on the Congress and the BJP and attributed their fate in the Delhi polls to arrogance. But, he called for an inclusive approach and said, “even the three BJP MLAs are part of us”.
Reacting to his speech, BJP MLA from Rohini, Vijender Gupta said, “We are a positive opposition, and we are aware of our role of a vigilant guard. “All the positive work which the government needs to do will be done for the benefit of the people. But wherever we feel that politics is being played, if such a situation arises, we do have the ability to uproot such a government.”
On the Centre-state role, BJP national secretary Shrikant Sharma said, “We congratulate them and we hope that they work well and address the immediate issues in Delhi, give solutions to that and whatever commitments he has made should be fulfilled and whatever constructive support the centre can provide, our government will provide.
