Opp Alliance demands resignation of all 30 MDCs

TURA: Strongly protesting against the alleged unconstitutional extension of the GHADC term the Joint Opposition Alliance (JOA) has demanded administrative rule in the District Council as well as the immediate resignation of all 30 MDCs of Garo Hills until fresh elections are held.
A meeting in this regard was held recently at Tura where the immediate dissolution of the current Executive Committee was sought as well as the holding of elections to the GHADC without delay.
“The term of the present EC as well as the term of present 30 MDCs already expired in the month of February 2015, hence the continuous extension of GHADC term and its members is unconstitutional and is in violation of rules under the Indian Democracy,” Augustine Marak, Member Secretary of JOA, said in a statement.
The meeting condemned the State government for repeatedly extending the term of the Council and claimed it had some hidden agenda which it wanted to pass in the upcoming GHADC session. It resolved to appeal before the Governor for immediate holding of elections to the GHADC.
In order to push forward their demand the JOA has decided to organize public processions in the five district of Garo Hills sometime soon, the dates for which would be announced later.
