Congress retains Liromba assembly seat in Arunachal

Itanagar: Congress on Monday retained the Liromoba Assembly seat with its candidate Nyamar Karbak defeating his BJP rival by a slender margin of 119 votes. While Karbak polled 3,808 votes, BJP nominee Bai Gadi polled 3,689 votes followed by Independent candidates Lijum Ronya (2,589), Lijum Ronya, Raksap Yomcha (355) and Johny Tali (40 votes). Nine voters also opted for NOTA, deputy chief electoral officer D J Bhattacharjee said.
By-election was necessitated due to the death of former chief minister Jarbom Gamlin on November 30 last year.
With the win, the Congress in the state has 47 MLAs in a 60-member House while opposition BJP has 11 legislators and two independents. (PTI)

JICA team visiting Nagaland

Kohima: A team of Japanese experts from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is on a visit to Nagaland to study the details for the survey for agriculture and allied sector as well as infrastructure development projects in the area.
The team has already visited several villages under Kohima district and interacted with local people to find out better avenues in  agriculture and allied sector of the state.
The expert has said that this survey will help for future plan which also will enhance economic development in the state.
The Japanese expert team on Monday interacted with people of Jhotsoma village and visited the monuments at the village which were erected in honour of the Japanese soldiers, who died during Second World War II.
The expert team will also visit Meghalaya and Tripura to do the study. (UNI)
