Pam-Iawmusiang fest concludes in Jaintia Hills

JOWAI: The three-day Pam-Iawmusiang – a religious festival organised by the Sein Raij Nangbah – concluded on Monday amid fanfare with hundreds of Ka Niamtre faithful participating in the rituals held at Iawmusiang, Nangbah village in West Jaintia Hills District.
The Pam-Iawmusiang festival includes Ka Pamblang – where over one hundred goats were sacrificed, the Pastieh – a dance performed after a war victory and Ka Siang Ka Pha – an offering by every family in the formed of edible items prepared in a very special way by the women folk.
The Dolloi, Longdoh (Priest) and Ka Longdoh (Priestess) along with the Pators the Wasans or the elders performed the ritual.
“Pam-Iawmusiang is a festival to ask for God’s forgiveness, to thank Him for all the goodness that he has bestowed upon the members of the Sein Raij and also to pray to Him to protect us from all kinds of evil spirits,” one of the Sein Raij elders, Pet Dhar, informed.
The Dolloi, Moon Garod, informed that every elected Dolloi in the Elaka has to perform such rituals at least three times in his lifetime.
“This is the sixth time I am performing the rituals as a Dolloi,” he said.
