KHADC session from Feb 23

SHILLONG:  The Congress-led Khasi Hills United Democratic Alliance (KHUDA) in KHADC has ruled out the possibility of moving any no-confidence motion against the Executive Committee (EC) led by Adelbert Nongrum during the upcoming session of the Council starting from February 23.
“We do not see any need for moving any no-confidence motion against the present EC at the moment. We would like to allow the present dispensation to continue,” senior Congress MDC Manstudy Nongrem said here on Thursday.
He said that the fact also is that as it stands at present, they do not have the requisite numbers to make such a move.
“We will definitely be raising some pertinent issues including the High Court ruling,” Nongrem said.
The Congress MDC also said that he would move a motion on demarcation of boundaries of various Himas and Elakas.
This decision of the Congress-led opposition is a major respite for KHADC CEM Adelbert Nongrum. However, the ongoing internal rumbling within the ruling coalition – ARPA — is a matter of concern for the CEM.
Earlier, Sohryngkham HSPDP MDC Pyniaid Sing Syiem had threatened to move a no-confidence motion against Nongrum for failing to pay any heed to his request of convening of the meeting of the traditional heads in view of the High Court ruling.
Sources close to the UDP MDCs revealed that even the UDP MDCs were unhappy with the performance of the present CEM. But none of them at present is ready to express it openly.
