Woman politician in US shoots self while adjusting bra holster

Washington: A 55-year-old woman politician in the US has died after accidentally shooting herself in the eye while adjusting a handgun in her bra holster. Christina Bond, mother of two, was a local politician and also a pageant champion. “She was having trouble adjusting her bra holster, couldn’t get it to fit the way she wanted it to. She was looking down at it and accidentally discharged the weapon,” St Joseph public safety director Mark Clapp was quoted as saying by The New York Post.
She was rushed from her home on Lake Michigan after the incident, but succumbed to her injuries at a local hospital. She was a local Republican official and also served two tours as a member of the United States Navy, it said. She also won the 2013 Miss Michigan Figure Overall body-building championship. Gun accessories such as bra and purse holsters, designed for women, have grown in popularity over the last few years. Many businesses now cater specifically to female gun owners. (PTI)

Hotter than hell! Japan to sell Kiss-inspired spicy buns

Tokyo: They may not sell as many records as in their heydey but glam rockers Kiss have inspired a Japanese convenience store to concoct a spicy steamed bun to commemorate the band’s 40th anniversary. Circle K Sunkus promise Chili Tomato Man bread — set to go on sale nationwide on February 24 to mark the pyrotechnic group’s tour of Japan — will be “Hotter than Hell”, the title of a 1974 Kiss album. The buns will be made with bamboo charcoal to give them a black exterior and red peppers and jalapeno powder for their “geki-kara” (extra spicy) taste. But fans will have to be quick as only 300,000 of the hot buns, costing 130 yen (USD 1.10) each, will be made, a spokesman told AFP today, adding that the promotion would begin as Kiss kicked off their tour of Japan.
“The buns are based on the image of the band Kiss,” he said. “Black on the outside and hot and spicy on the inside,” he added, in apparent reference to the group’s heavy black and white make-up. “Like the band, they have impact.” The Rock and Roll Hall of Famers, who shot to notoriety in the 1970s with their outlandish live performances, featuring fire-breathing, blood-spitting and levitating drum kits, have sold more than 100 million records worldwide. Physicist whose work helped world see 1st moon walk dies

Ithaca (US): A physicist whose career was highlighted by research that helped capture moving images of the first moon walk has died. Ernest Sternglass was 91. Cornell University says Sternglass died Thursday of heart failure in Ithaca, New York. Sternglass corresponded early in his career with Albert Einstein, who encouraged him to pursue applied physics over theoretical research. Cornell says Sternglass’ research helped lead to a sensitive television camera tube that captured low-light lunar action during the 1969 moon landing. He also performed pioneering work in digital X-rays. He worked on medical imaging for many years at the Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Sternglass fled Nazi Germany with his family in 1938. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Cornell, as well as his doctorate. (AP)
