SHILLONG: The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in the city is undergoing a major renovation at the moment.
Chief Engineer, State Sports Council, G Kharmawphlang informed that currently work is going on in the eastern side of the stadium and with this renovation the sitting capacity of the stadium will go up by at least 3000-4000 seats.
As part of the renovation work, the conference room and dressing rooms etc, of the stadium would also be upgraded, the official said.
The renovation work would be completed by the end of the year, the official added.
The JN Stadium in the city plays host to I-League matches and the renovation is expected to ensure better facilities for the people and the players of both the home and visiting teams.
