Coal mining hazard worries CPI

SHILLONG: The 13th conference of the CPI, Meghalaya held here on Saturday expressed concern over the health hazards posed due to coal mining in the State.
The meeting urged the State Government to take seriously the ill effects of coal mining in Meghalaya.
The conference also viewed the acute economic problems being faced by the people of the state and urged the Government to initiate steps for industrialization in Meghalaya.
The members of National Executive of CPI, Pallab Sengupta and Druphad Borgohain addressed the meeting attended by as many as 51 elected delegates.
The conference elected 15 members for the state council and five others as secretariat members.
Party leader Samudra Gupta was elected state secretary for the next three years.
