SHILLONG: With an aim to help motorists self regulate themselves, the police imposed a total fine of Rs 26,000 on violators last week to ease traffic congestion.
East Khasi Hills SP, M Kharkrang said that as many 86 cases of ‘no-entry violations’ were detected last week in various parts of the city.
It may be mentioned that as per the self-regulation initiative of the police, the traffic police personnel are being deployed inside the prohibited areas instead of the no entry points to catch the violators.
The areas where police witnessed traffic violations included Upland Road, Polo market Riatsamthiah, Oxford Hills among others.
The SP said that the Shillong Traffic Police will continue its efforts to self regulate the motorists.
Police have already withdrawn the traffic personnel manning the no-entry, no-parking and one-way zones to ensure that the motorists discipline themselves.
