SHILLONG: RTI findings have revealed that there is no record on formation of Mauza X in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC).
“There is no record available on decisions made by the Executive Committee in the past on formation of Mauza X. There were no records of executive decisions made to declare Tura as Khas Mahal and de-reserve under Mauza X,” Town Nokma under Danakgre Aking, Bernard N Marak said in a statement.
For 40 years, people of Tura were made to believe that Tura was not under the jurisdiction of the Aking Nokma.
RTI findings revealed that Aking Nokma never gave the consent for exclusion of the town area from the Aking neither was there any record of declaring Tura town under Mauza X.
“Tura was always a part of the Danakgre Aking but role of the civil administration surpassed the role of the Aking Nokma. Tura is a tribal area; it was never a general area. The formation of Mauza X was unconstitutional and illegal,” Marak alleged.
“All Nokmas under Danakgre Aking will meet shortly to re-establish traditional administration in the Aking area,” Marak added.
