Implementing agency asked to ‘add to the beauty of the project’

SHILLONG: The State Government has asked the National Building Construction Corporation (NBCC) to “add aesthetics” to the proposed shopping complex slated to come up at Polo area of the city.
Speaking to media persons here after a review meeting on the project, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said that that the NBCC has been asked to prepare its concept on the new additions as proposed by the State Government for the shopping complex in Polo.
“We have asked for some more options for the project,” Sangma said.
The next review meeting for the project would be held on March 9.
The State Government plans to build a ‘Times Square-like’ structure at the proposed shopping complex at Polo Market.
Meanwhile, NBCC officials said that the Corporation wants the funds for the Rs 150 crore project to be directly transferred to the implementing agency instead of routing it through the State Government.
“The Meghalaya Government has given a nod to it,” officials said adding that work for the project would commence as soon as the funds are made available.
