Barpeta: A man allegedly killed his nine-year-old daughter and then committed suicide in Assam’s Barpeta district, the police said on Saturday.
The man, Ranjit Mandal, was found hanging from a tree behind his house and his daughter’s body was found lying on the ground nearby at Besimari village on Saturday morning.
Mandal and his daughter had gone to visit his another married daughter at Bamundi on Friday. After returning from there, they had been seen having tea at a tea-stall and they had also bought a rope from a nearby shop, the police said.
The two, however, did not return home and their bodies were recovered in the morning.
The cause of the killing and suicide was yet to be ascertained though police suspect that family problem could have led to the deaths. (PTI)
