Night road blockade called off

NONGPOH: Giving a sigh of relief to the public at large, the KSU, North Khasi Hills District unit on Saturday called off its proposed night road blockade scheduled from 7pm to 5am on Monday and Tuesday next reciprocating to the state government’s assurance of setting up temporary police camps in Block II and Hima Nongspung.
The decision was taken in a meeting held at the union office here at Mawdiangum on Saturday  evening a day after their meeting with Chief Secretary PBO Warjri, DGP Rajiv Mehta and other senior government officials at Shillong.
Informing this to The Shillong Times, KSU unit’s  president Ferdinand Kharkamni described the meeting with the top brass of the government as conductive and fruitful as the  government made assurance to take up most of the their demands and grievances.
He further said that, the DGP assured them that a temporary police camp will be set up at Block II and moreover police patrolling along the villages under disputed area will be intensified. He added that, the government will put up a temporary camp at Hima Nongspung.
Kharkamni said that, the government will form a committee to look into their demands for plying of SPTS buses in Block II besides construction of roads and other.
He also urged the MLA and the MDC of Mawhati to play their role in maintaining peace and security for the peace of Block II while at the same time expressed their gratitude to SRS of Raid Nongtung, Hima Nongspung and RBYF for their support and hoped they will not lag behind if a need arise to agitate in near future.
