463 villages in West Khasi Hills without sanitation facilities

NONGSTOIN: A five-day workshop on Total Led Sanitation for training of trainers conducted by the
District Water & Sanitation Mission (DWSM), West Khasi Hills in collaboration with World Bank WSP & Feedback Foundation concluded here on Saturday with a pledge by around 100 local headmen to make the district open defecation free by October 2, 2015.
The participants included EACs, BDOs staff from the Public Health Engineering Department, staff from four C&RD Blocks and local headmen.
The closing programme was attended by West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner cum Chairman, DWSM, S. Kharlyngdoh, PHED Executive Engineer cum member secretary A. Lyngkhoi, State Consultant World Bank WSP Venkatesh and master trainers from Field Work Foundation, Gurgaon.
It was mentioned that according to the roughly assessment about 463 villages in the District still practice open defecation.
Around 80 volunteers and motivators including BDOs of the four C&RD Blocks in the District have been assigned to assist the villages in achieving the target within the stipulated date.
