Chargesheeted contractor behind CCTV installation

SHILLONG: A person declared as absconder in a chargesheet filed by the police, was given the sub contract for the installation of CCTVs in city.
Interestingly, the ‘absconder’ identified as Daimul Alom Mazumder was present during the inauguration of closed-circuit television (CCTV) based surveillance system under ‘Safe-Secure-Shillong Project’ on Thursday at Shillong Sadar Police Station.
When contacted, the East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Goyal said that he remembers filing an FIR with the police against two persons, Daimul and Sahir Ahmed Mazumder in 2012.  The official, however, said that he would cross check with the police on the status of the case.
The FIR lodged by the Deputy Commissioner addressed to the East Khasi Hills SP said that the duo had spread false rumours against the action taken by the district administration in vacating a room at the Police Bazar mosque.
The DC had also sought immediate action against the duo so as to prevent any outbreak of law and order.
The FIR was forwarded to Sadar police station and subsequently Sub Inspector P. Burman took up the investigation as directed by  Inspector, D. Nongpluh who was the officer in charge  of Sadar police station.
Asked about the status of the case, the East Khasi Hills SP M. Kharkrang said that Daimul was charge-sheeted in the past , but  added that the implementing agency is the North East Centre for Technology Application and Research (NECTAR) and it had subcontracted the work to Daimul for  raising poles  for setting up of  CCTVs in parts of Shillong .
Though the chargesheet had mentioned Daimul as an absconder, it is yet to be known whether he surrendered before police later.
When contacted, the official of  North East Centre for Technology Application and Research  based in Shillong did not return the call.
