MCS officer evading duties for weeks now

PATHARKHMAH: The noble purpose of decentralization of power to the grassroots level has proved to be a defeated cause in Jirang C&RD Block in Ri Bhoi District with the Block Development Officer, Grantwill Passah, missing from his office for weeks now leaving the people in the lurch and creating a backlog of a heap of important but unattended files.
Informing this to The Shillong Times on Monday, general secretary of Western Ri Bhoi Dorbar & Social Welfare Organization Sranly Wahlang said, “Since the Republic Day celebrations Passah has disappeared into thin air and his whereabouts is a mystery to all concerned.”
Wahlang also informed that the staffs at the BDO’s office were neither able to throw any light on why their ‘esteemed BDO’ was absent from duty nor were able to confirm whether the MCS officer had gone on leave.
“Jirang is among the most backward Blocks in the State and also the country and instead of progressing ahead we are retracting our steps backwards as we have no BDO attending to his work for the past several weeks,” Wahlang lamented.
Wahlang also ruled out the possibility that the BDO had gone on official leave, saying that if that had been the case the government would have made alternative arrangements.
