SHILLONG: The Soil and Water Conservation Department has decided to go slow on the implementation of the Sohra Eco-Restoration Project citing fund constraints.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Soil and Water Conservation Minister Rowell Lyngdoh said that the department will go slow on the project due to fund constraints.
The state government had, in 2013, decided to withdraw the budget provision of Rs 27 crore earmarked for the project. The project which was launched in 2010 was approved by the Planning Commission with an initial funding of Rs.87.16 crore. Lyngdoh further informed that the project has been a success with people already availing benefits from the same.
It may be mentioned that an area of 11,092 hectares covering 45 villages has been identified for the project which aims at restoring the ecology and environment of Sohra.
