PRISM urges Mizoram govt to restructure posts in depts

Aizawl:Aizawl-based anti-corruption watchdog ‘People’s Right to Information and Development Implementing Society of Mizoram’ (PRISM) on Thursday urged the state government to restructure posts in different government departments. PRISM, in a press statement, said that there were 51,177 government employees in the state having a population of around 10 lakh. There were 48 government departments while there were 154 officials holding the posts of Chief Secretary, Principal Secretaries, Secretaries, Additional Secretaries, Joint Secretaries, Deputy Secretaries and Under Secretaries in the Secretariat, the statement said. There were 241 officials holding the posts of Principal Directors, Directors, Additional Directors, Joint Directors, Deputy Directors and Assistant Directors in the direc-torates. While 368 people were shown as being employed as household peons by different public and government servants from Chief Minister, Ministers, legislators and senior officials, there were only few actual workers, PRISM said adding such practice should be abolished immediately. Nagaland observes National Safety Day

Kohima:Nagaland Parliamentary Secretary for Labour and Employment S Chuba Longkumer has called for joint responsibility of the Labour department and the management of the industrial establishment in streamlining safety, healthy and safe environment. Addressing the 27th National Safety Day at Purana Bazaar in Dimapur yesterday, which was organised on the theme ‘Manage stress at workplace and control hazards’ as the chief guest Chuba said safety awareness, being in the overall interest of the employees, results in productivity. He also said working in a healthy culture, safety, and safe health environment would result in less stress for workers and reduces hazards and mitigate loss of life, human suffering and economic losses.He also pointed out that it is important to keep in mind the nature of manufacturing process and handling of toxic chemicals to avoid accident. 17 houses gutted in fire in Assam

Sivasagar:At least 17 temporary houses were on Thursday gutted in a fire that broke out due to cylinder blasts in Sivasagar district.According to a police officer, the incident occurred in Khatopathar area under Sivasagar police station in the district. The fire first spread from a cylinder bast in a house which spread to other houses.”One after another, four cylinder blasted and the entire area, where 17 houses were there, were under fire. State fire brigade and ONGC fire brigade came and controlled it,” the police officer said.The officer said there was no loss of human life.”Our initial estimation says that properties worth over Rs 20 lakh were gutted in the fire,” the police officer added.
