SHILLONG: The Opposition People’s Democratic Front (PDF) in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council is in no hurry to stake the claim for formation of the new Executive Committee despite becoming the majority force in the Council after Mawkyrwat MDC Hadrian Lyngdoh (UDP) decided to extend support to the opposition camp.
“We will not rush for forming the new EC as we want to keep a close watch on the next course of action of ARPA,” a senior MDC supporting the PDF said on Friday.
The senior MDC wanted KHADC Chief Executive Member Adelbert Nongrum to step down owning moral responsibility since ARPA was no longer the major force.
The MDC also indicated that the name of the new CEM would be finalized during the discussion on the budget at a special session of the KHADC on March 16.
The MDC also affirmed that Mawlai MDC Process T Sawkmie was the consensus candidate of the PDF for the post of CEM.
Meanwhile, KHADC CEM Adelbert Nongrum said that he will take a final call on his resignation only after the meeting of the ARPA.
“We are likely to meet tomorrow to discuss this latest political development,” Nongrum added.
