Tribunal meet on HNLC ban inconclusive

SHILLONG: The meeting of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Tribunal headed by Justice A.K. Pathak, which discussed  the pros and cons of extending the ongoing ban on HNLC, has fixed April 18 as the next date for hearing.
The meeting held at Umiam for two days from March 7 remained inconclusive.
While on Saturday, the SPs and DCs of South West Khasi Hills, East and West Jaintia Hills deposed before the Tribunal. The SPs and DCs of East Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills and Ri-Bhoi will depose before the Tribunal during the next hearing.
On Sunday, senior state Home department officials deposed before the Tribunal citing reasons for an extension of ban.
Since the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act was amended, the ban period will for five years.
