SHILLONG: Independent legislator Saleng Sangma on Monday made a passionate plea to all the political parties to pave way for the entry of kin of the deceased legislator Clifford Marak to the Assembly to fill the vacuum.
According to Sangma, to show the true love and solidarity to the late legislator, the political parties irrespective of their party affiliations should support any attempt by any member of Clifford’s family to get elected to the House unopposed.
Sangma made this suggestion while taking part in the obituary reference in the Assembly. Meanwhile, the wife of Clifford Marak, Kalpana Sangma has expressed her willingness to contest from Chokpot seat after she was elected as the Acting President of the party on Saturday.
“People of the Chokpot constituency have proposed my name and they want me to contest the by-election, hence, I have to say yes”, Kalpana said over phone from Tura on Monday.
When asked, the wife of late legislator said that she is not aware of other political parties fielding candidates. She also said other political parties have not approached her to contest the seat.
