Non-allocation of funds by 14th Finance Commission
SHILLONG: The Opposition alliance – People’s Democratic Front – in the KHADC is contemplating to convene a meeting of the chief executive members of the various autonomous district councils in the Northeastern states to deliberate on the zero allocation of funds by the 14th Finance Commission to the ADCs, immediately after coming to power in the KHADC.
“We will convene a meeting of the CEMs of the various ADCs of the region to discuss this pertinent issue as soon as we form the new Executive Committee,” PDF chairman Pynshngain N Syiem told newsmen here on Monday.
He said that this would be part of the initiative to garner the support of all the ADCs in the region to approach the Centre on the issue of non-allocation of funds.
“It is important that all the ADCs jointly raise this issue with the Centre. With one single voice we should impress the Centre to allocate funds in accordance with Article 275 (1) of the Constitution as recommended by the members of the 14th Finance Commission,” the PDF chairman said.
While recalling that during the 13th Finance Commission, a total of Rs.432 crore had been allotted to the three ADCs in the State, Syiem feared that the zero allocation of funds by the 14th Finance Commission will have a great impact on the overall functioning of the Council since there will be no developmental programmes in the next four years.
