Formation of new KHADC EC

SHILLONG:  The PDF chairman Pynshngain N Syiem will head the new Executive Committee of KHADC as another contender for the CEM’s post, Mawlai MDC, Process T. Sawkmie has decided to withdraw himself from the race.
The decision was announced here after the duo (Syiem and Sawkmie) were asked to decide amongst themselves on the matter after which Sawkmie refused to hold the Deputy CEM’s post.
“In a democratic set up, the dominant ally in any coalition has the prerogative to head the government. Since Congress has the highest number of MDCs in the coalition (PDF) I felt its leader should head the EC,” Sawkmie  told newsmen here on Monday.
The PDF comprises 12 Congress MDCs, 1 NCP and three Independents. The Mawlai MDC also felt that he (Syiem) was the best man for the job.
“With his experience, Syiem will be able to bring the administration of the Council back on track,” Sawkmie said adding,  “With this decision the political crisis has come to an end and we are committed to work as a team to ensure the PDF-led EC lasts the remaining part of its present  tenure.”
Former KHNAM leader said that they will wait till the incumbent CEM Adelbert Nongrum steps down.
“If Nongrum does not step down, the PDF will be left with no other option but to stake claim for the formation of the new EC,” he said.
