SHILLONG: The UDP had extended its deepest condolences to the families of the slain policemen who lost their precious lives at the hands of GNLA, who had cowardly carried out the ambush at the cost of their own brethren.
In a statement issued here on Thursday, UDP general secretary Allantry F Dkhar said that the party deplores and strongly condemns this act and demands that the state government provide an answer to the public and in particular, the families of the departed policemen, as to why necessary precautionary measures were not adopted, especially when specially designed vehicles were available with the department.
Adequate compensation and support by way of employment should be given to the next of kin, the UDP demanded.
“The party also takes strong exception to the fact that an absconder from the law was gainfully sub-contracted to install CCTV cameras for the government to ensure security for the public. This ironic instance is a clear indication of the state of affairs within the government where the oath of serving to uphold the Constitution of the country and its people has been severely breached and warrants immediate attention,” Dkhar said.
He also said that with the passage of time, it can be noted that the government of the day is yet to act with due seriousness thereby encouraging such practices.
“The party strongly urges upon the government to immediately take stern action as prescribed by law,” Dkhar concluded.
