SHILLONG: People’s Democratic Front (PDF), the Opposition Alliance in the KHADC, on Thursday claimed that it still enjoyed the support of 17 MDCs in the 30-member House with three MDCs – Grace Mary Kharpuri, James Sylliang and Pyniaid Sing Syiem – yet to officially submit their resignation after they withdrew their support to PDF and joined the ruling All Regional Parties Alliance (ARPA).
The three MDCs, who were founding members of the PDF, were yet to submit their resignation PDF chairman Pynshngain N Syiem said on Thursday, adding, “We are yet to receive any official intimation from the three MDCs that they have decided to leave the alliance.”
He added that officially, the PDF still enjoyed the support of 17 MDCs.
It would be pertinent to note that Kharpuri, who is known to switch sides on a regular basis, had not sent any official intimation when she had quit ARPA to jointly form the PDF.
KHADC CEM Adelbert Nongrum had confirmed that he had not got any letter from Kharpuri informing of her decision to leave ARPA.
It may also be noted that all the three MDCs were associated with ARPA since its formation after the announcement of the results last year.
However, Sylliang left ARPA within a few days of its formation claiming that he was ‘sidelined’ and associated himself with the Congress-led KHUDA which was dissolved after the formation of PDF.
Sylliang has re-associated himself with ARPA, ditching the Congress after a partnership of nearly a year.
As far as HSPDP MDC Pyniaid is concerned, it has been revealed that he was instrumental in the formation of PDF.
Informed sources revealed that it was the Sohryngkham MDC who had approached the Congress to move the No-Confidence Motion against the Adelbert Nongrum-led Executive Committee.
He, however, backed out from the PDF on the very same day when the No-Confidence Motion was to be taken up in the KHADC.
