Shillong: The Industries and Trade Fair Association of Assam (ITFAA) can be credited for creativity and variety, whether it is for the entrance arch or the items on display at the Fair. It has also managed to attract large crowds from a cross section of society since there is something available for every pocket.
This time the venue of the 16th version of ITFAA is beautifully decorated with modern lightings; the presence of a few more participating countries has added greater flavour to the Fair. What attracts people are the international flavours in food and the expensive prizes on entry tickets. Since the Fair began on March 10, there has been a constant rush at the Madan Iew Rynghep where the Fair is usually held.
The extraordinary varieties of foods enthral the visitors breaking all boundaries of caste, creed, religion and nationality. The International Food Court which is happening for the first time in Meghalaya with outlets from Bangkok , Asian House, Arabian Night, Karachi Darbar, Chandni Chowk, Taste of India, Amritsari Rasoi, Rajasthani flavours apart from street foods of India is a big hit.
Dolly Lyngdoh, a local college student who is visiting the fair for the second time since its inauguration is keeping her fingers crossed to win the first prize of a jewellery set on the lottery on entry tickets, “I have bought entry tickets for the second time and am praying that I win the beautiful jewellery set,” she exclaimed, but added that her family members prefer the bedroom furniture set offered as the second prize.
Meanwhile, 12 year old Tony Dkhar is more excited about taking selfies with the swanky looking Audi car displayed at the Fair for the first time. It may be mentioned that Audi is displaying their array of vehicles for the first time in Meghalaya at the Fair.
Afghanistan and Vietnam which are making their debut in the Shillong Trade Fair along with all-time favourites Thailand, Pakistan, Egypt and Bangladesh are attracting huge crowds with customers making a beeline for their exclusive products.
The Fair organised by Industries and Trade Fair Association of Assam (ITFAA) in association with National Small Scale Industries Corporation Limited ( NSIC) and with the support of Government of Meghalaya will continue till March 23, 2015.
