Rejecting the government’s claim that the law and order situation in the state was by and large peaceful, Mawthoh said that the fact was that there was no sign of improvement in the law and order front especially in Garo Hills.
He also said that the deteriorating law and order situation was apparent and evident by the spurt of militant activities in Garo Hills.
“The testimony to this fact is the death of four policemen in the recent ambush of the GNLA in South Garo Hills,” Mawthoh said.
The Nongthymmai legislator also questioned the state government for its failure to resolve the long-pending boundary dispute with Assam.
“The state government should demand constitution of the Boundary Commission to bring lasting solution to the vexed boundary dispute which has been lingering for decades,” Mawthoh said.
He also slammed the government for failing to bring a ‘fool proof’ mechanism to address the problem of influx and inflow of illegal immigrants in the State.
Mawthoh urged the government to engage with members of the civil societies and stakeholders to evolve a mechanism where they can assist the government in checking influx.
Expressing concern over the present financial crisis of the state, he hoped that the state will be able to overcome its tag of being a ‘Special Category State’ who is totally dependent on the Centre.
The legislator also expressed his disappointment that the government had not done enough towards disaster management despite the State being a highly seismic zone.
