Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Wednesday alleged that Akhil Gogoi-led Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) had taken donations from rich and corporates, which was denied and challenged by the RTI activist.
“I welcome this (floating of a new party) as it is good for democracy. I heard that many rich and corporate people have contributed to KMSS,” the Chief Minister said.
Gogoi, however, said he did not have any objection to KMSS collecting money from the affluent class.
Reacting to the allegation, Akhil Gogoi of KMSS said, “He (Chief Minister) always makes a light comment just before any serious thing happens. I challenge him to prove it (taking money from corporates). I have rejected all corporate and capitalist funding to our organisation.”
Earlier during the day, KMSS announced to launch an independent political party to fight Assembly elections in Assam in 2016.
The new party, the name of which has not been made public yet, will fight elections against the existing ones such as ruling Congress, BJP, AGP and AIUDF, Gogoi said in his inaugural speech at the 4th Biennial Convention of KMSS at Moran in Dibrugarh district.
About 5,000 delegates are participating in the three-day KMSS convention starting from today. Social activist and Gandhian Anna Hazare is expected to attend the convention on March 20.
Akhil Gogoi’s KMSS to float new political party to fight polls
Meanwhile in Moran,RTI activist Akhil Gogoi announced to launch an independent political party through his peasants organisation Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) to fight 2016 Assembly polls in Assam.
The new party, the name of which has not been made public yet, will fight elections against the ruling Congress and opposition BJP, AGP and AIUDF in the state.
“The political party from KMSS will fight for farmers, labourers, middle-class — in short the exploited class of our society — and for the basic facilities they need. We will start a new politics, a new struggle,” Gogoi said in his inaugural speech at the 4th Biennial Convention of KMSS here.
The party will usher in “the actual politics” and will fight for the basic rights, foods, accommodation and fresh air for the common people, he added.
“We will fight till our last breath to get our rights. We will fight to change our economic system and for social uplift so that every farmer gets ownership of land. It will be a politics to snatch power from Congress, BJP, AGP, AIUDF and to throw them into the dustbin of politics,” said Gogoi, who is the President of KMSS.
He said the new party will be dedicated and honest in its struggle to achieve peoples’ power in true sense.
“If we want only seat and power, then it will be politics of Congress, BJP, AGP and AIUDF. It will be the politics of exploitation. If anyone of you have come here with a hope to get ticket in the assembly polls, then you are living in a fool’s paradise,”he said.(pti)
