B’deshi miscreants burn crops at Nongtrai village

SHILLONG: Suspected Bangladeshi miscreants on Tuesday morning allegedly burnt standing crops in Nongtrai area of East Khasi Hills.
The total worth of the crops damaged is estimated to be Rs.10 lakh.
A police team visited the area after the affected villagers filed a complaint in this regard.
According to the complaint, the damaged crops belonged to Nongtrai village headman B. Lyngdoh and six others – Shing Lyngdoh, Suna Lyngdoh, Jami Lyngdoh, Borjish Shabong, Asphinath Lyngdoh and Pil Buiam. The affected area is almost 2 km inside Meghalaya territory as calculated from the border fence, the villagers claimed.
Earlier on Monday, suspected Bangladeshi nationals had crossed over into Indian territory and set on fire the plantation of Ksan Pilot Wahlang at Nongtrai village near Phlangkaruh river.
East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Goyal on Thursday said that facts into both the incident would be thoroughly ascertained.
