SHILLONG: A person was blown into pieces at Pommura, under Mawryngkneng, East Khasi Hills around 30 km from here following a blast of explosives at his kitchen on Friday evening. A portion of the house was also gutted due to the impact of the blast.
East Khasi Hills district police chief M Kharkrang said on Saturday that the owner of the house identified as Andreas Nongrum (40) was killed when there was huge explosion at around 6.30 pm inside his house. His wife had gone out when the incident took place.
There was panic in and around Pommura, as the people thought it was a case of bomb blast.
Bomb disposal squad and FSL experts rushed to the spot and carried out spot inspection.
Police are inquiring whether the person who died was supplying explosives to the stone quarries meant for blasting boulders.
“We do not suspect any foul play”, the SP added.
Police recovered safety fuse from the house and investigation is on to ascertain how the explosives caught fire.
