Call for change in cyber crime laws

Guwahati: Supreme Court judge Justice Madam Bhimarao Lokur on Saturday stressed on the need to be alert to the new crimes being committed in the arena of cyber crimes.
Inaugurating a two-day Regional Conference on Cyber Laws here, Justice Lokur said, ‘There are a lot of new crimes coming up in the cyber world and of late we have witnessed an increase in the rate of these crimes.’
The conference has been organised by Gauhati High Court in association with Judicial Academy, Assam and is aimed at sensitising judges, public prosecutors and investigating officers of the North Eastern region.
Synchronising with the conference an exhibition of Cyber Forensic Tolls was inaugurated by Uma Nath Singh, Chief Justice, Meghalaya High Court, who was of the view that cyber weapons being used today are no less than nuclear weapons.
The conference was attended by Amitava Roy, Judge, Supreme Court of India, Sanjeev Sachdeva, Judge, Delhi High Court along with a host of other dignitaries and resource persons. (UNI)
