GSU dissolves apex body

TURA: The Garo Students’ Union’s election convener has given the go ahead for holding elections on April 11 to appoint a new GSU apex body.
Zonal leaders of the GSU on Tuesday informed The Shillong Times that the Union’s election convener Manseng A Sangma had given his consent for holding GSU polls on April 11.
The GSU informed that its apex body had been dissolved with immediate effect.
Incumbent GSU president Tengsak G Momin had held the reins of the Union for an additional four years after his term ended in 2011 since elctions had not been held. The term of the leaders were repeatedly extended merely by nominations which had also sparked some amount of protests in the past from certain quarters.
