BSF seizes 18 kgs heroin in Punjab
New Delhi: The Border Security Force, in an encounter with Pakistani smugglers, has seized 18 kilograms of heroin in the in the Dera Baba Nanak Sector in Gurdaspur district of Punjab .According to reports, personnel on duty noticed an infiltration bid. Upon shouting a warning, the suspects began to fire. The BSF troops retaliated, following which the suspects fled.The heroin is reportedly worth Rs 90 crore in the international market. Couple held with pistols
KOLKATA: A man and his wife, suspected to be weapon smugglers, were arrested and locally-made pistols and ammunition seized from them on Tuesday from West Bengal’s North 24- Parganas district, the BSF said.The arrests and the seizure were made during a joint operation by the Border Security Force and West Bengal Police.Acting on intelligence inputs, a joint team of the BSF and police accosted the couple at the Bangaon bus-stop in the district.”On searching them, 10 locally-made firearms without trigger mechanism, 20 live rounds of 7.65 mm bullets along with 2 kg white chemical powder was seized from their position,” said a BSF officer.Abdul Rauf Mandal and his wife Rahima Mandal have admitted they were weapon couriers, the officer said.They said they collected the arms consignment from Bihar’s Jamalpur, and were to deliver it to another courier in Bangaon.The couple have been handed over to police, who are on the lookout for other members of the racket. Mobile on video mode in trial room
New Delhi: The store manager of an apparel showroom was arrested after a woman executive allegedly discovered a mobile phone on video recording mode placed inside its trial room. The accused, identified as Pulkit Sanwal, was arrested on Monday after the woman approached police. The incident took place yesterday afternoon when a 23-year-old woman had gone into the trial room of the showroom located in southeast Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar area to try out some outfits, police said. However, the woman allegedly discovered a mobile phone placed strategically in a gap in the trial room and when she checked it, she found that the phone was on video recording mode, they said. “We conducted a raid at the showroom and seized the mobile phone after the woman made a call. Sanwal who confessed that it was he who had kept the phone there has been arrested under Sections 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 354C (Voyeurism) of IPC,” said a police official. The mobile phone has been sent for forensic examination and Sanwal is being interrogated by the police. “We are trying to find out how long he had been doing so and did he sell any such videos to any websites for money or was he doing so for his personal consumption. Further investigations are on,” he added. (PTI)
Family shot dead over land dispute
Katihar,: Unidentified armed criminals shot dead three of a family over a land dispute in Dhamniya Tola at Kishanpur panchayat under Amdabad police station of this district.According to the police, Vijay Yadav(35), a resident of Dhamniya Tola, had old enmity with his neighbour over land dispute. Yadav had even lodged a case against his neighbour in January 2015, police added.Police said that some armed criminals barged into the house of Yadav on Monday evening and fired indiscriminately, killing Yadav,hiswife Kamla Devi(30) and eight-year old son Prasannajit Kumar on the spot.’Only a 10-month old baby in Yadav’s family has survived the criminals’ attack’, police informed.The bodies were sent today for post-mortem to Sadar Hospital, Katihar. Police are conducting raids to arrest the killers, but so far, no arrest has been made. (UNI)
Sahara employee jumps to death
Lucknow: An employee of the Sahara group – who did not get his salary for four months – committed suicide by jumping from the eighth floor of his office building on Tuesday, police said.Pradeep Mandal, a 45-year-old deputy manager with Sahara India Co-operative Society, came to the Sahara headquarters in Aliganj area in the morning.His colleagues said he was keeping tense for the past few days as he had not been paid salary by the company for the past four months.The Sahara group has not been able to pay salaries to employees in many wings, as its chief Subrata Roy is in Tihar jail for more than a year now over a legal issue.Mandal is survived by his wife and a daughter.He was dead by the time his colleagues and security staff took him to hospital, an official told IANS.The body has been sent for post-mortem examination after completion of legal formalities.(IANS)
