3.5 magnitude quake hits Nagaland
New Delhi:A slight intensity earthquake measuring 3.5 on the Richter Scale, struck Zunheboto, Nagaland today.The quake jolted the region at 0458 hrs and was epicentred at 26.1 degrees North Latitude and 94.5 degrees East Longitude, the India Meteorological Department said.The focal depth of the quake measured was 20 km, it added. NABARD sanctions 59 fish kiosks for Nagaland
Kohima:The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has sanctioned a project for construction of 59 fish kiosks in all the 11 districts of Nagaland. According to a statement issued by NABARD General Manager V. Chelladurai, the total financial outlay of the project is estimated at Rs. 648.47 Lakh and NABARD has committed a loan assistance of Rs. 616.04 Lakh under its Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF). The construction of fish kiosks is to be implemented by Fisheries Department, Government of Nagaland. Each of the fish kiosks, with a capacity to handle approximately 2500 Kgs of fish per month, would be provided with one electronic weighing machine and four plastic ice boxes for effective utilization and management of the kiosks. 33 injured in bus mishap in Nagaland
Kohima:At least 33 people were injured in a bus accident yesterday afternoon, some in critical conditions, near Pughoboto town under Zunheboto district of Nagaland. Official sources said that the private bus carrying around 40 passengers, who were returning from Dimapur after attending the Sumi Aphuyemi Baptist Akukuhou Kuqhakulu (SABAK) youth programme in Dimapur and most of the passengers, were youths. Some of the seriously injured persons were rushed to Naga Hospital at Kohima, while the others were taken to a nearby Primary Health Centre. Sources said that the accident took place reportedly due to break failure. Meanwhile, the Youth Secretary of Nagaland Baptist Church Council Vikuo Rhi expressed shock and sadness over the accident and prayed for the injured persons to recover soon. (UNI)
Nagaland observes World TB Day
Kohima:The Wokha District TB Forum (WDTBF) in collaboration with Akshya, Centre for Youth and Support Action, TWS, YS, Observation Home, WDEA and Team Metamorphosis and supported by EHA Akshya Project, organised World TB Day on Tuesday.Addressing the function, Wokha Deputy Commissioner A.Robin Lotha said as citizens, it is time to look back and feel the necessity to eradicate this disease because TB kills people to a large extent every year as in 2013, nine million people were infected by TB and out of these, 1.5 million died.He also emphasised on the need to spread awareness among people that TB is curable and motivate the patient to take timely treatment and medicines regularly to ensure complete cure. Associate Professor of Mount Tiyi College of Wokha Zumomo Ovung said it is a huge responsibility for the department, NGOs and groups, who are combating to make India TB-free, because the disease is considered to be the second top killer of human being, which kills about two million of people every year.Focus should not be targeted only to the infected person, but target should be to reach the entire populace and make them aware on how to stay away from this disease and bring them at the right diagnostic centers so that timely medical care can be administered, Dr Ovung added. 4 extortionists nabbed, arms and ammunition recovered
Itanagar:: Arunachal Pradesh Police has arrested four extortionists and recovered arms and ammunition from their possession from Hapoli and Yazali areas in Lower Subansiri district of the state. The extortionists were identified as Dake Tai of Kurung Kumey district, Rimo Bodo and Sime Killo from East Kameng district and Anthony Doke, a self styled Commander of NSCT. Sime Killo also holds the post of social service secretary in Arunachal Anti-Corruption Sena as per the papers recovered from him, official sources informed here today. Two country-made 7.65mm pistols with 51 live rounds, 6 mobile phones and four extra SIM cards were recovered from the possession of the extortionists.Acting on a tip off, the police team under the close supervision of SP Tumme Amo arrested Dake Tai, Rimo Bodo and Sime Killo from the DC Office premises yesterday after four days of vigilance.(UNI)
Four killed in road accident
Imphal:Four persons were killed and two others injured in a road accident near Nungdalan, Senapati district last evening. Due to the terrain, rescue works were done today and the injured persons were brought to Regional Institute of Medical Sciences(RIMS) Hospital, Imphal. Police said the accident occurred when a truck loaded with brick fell down in a gorge popularly. Four persons including the driver died and two others sustained injuries. All the bodies were recovered by police and a rescue team and sent for the post mortem. (UNI)
