It’s Sangma versus Sangma in State Assembly

SHILLONG: The old political rivalry between Mukul Sangma and Purno Sangma resurfaced on Tuesday as Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Zenith Sangma and Daddengre MLA James Sangma had heated exchanges in the Assembly over the renaming of the Stadium in Tura.
Participating in the cut motion, James Sangma targeted the Sports and Youth Affairs Minister  for renaming the MP Stadium at Tura to Dikki-Bandi and termed the decision as a political move. He said the minister had chaired a meeting where one of the MDCs suggested the new name and accordingly the name of the stadium was promptly changed.
While commenting that he had no problem with the name being changed, James however termed it as shameful that the MPLAD board should be blanked out from the stadium.
While replying to the cut motion, the Sports and Youth Affairs Minister denied that the name change was a political move and wondered why the member is continuously raking up the issue though it has been discussed many times.
As the argument heated up, the Sports Minister further commented that in 2011, a football tournament had to be shifted from MP Stadium to Chandmari Stadium since the then MP Agatha Sangma instructed the DC to vacate the stadium because she wanted to host the MP cup.
Piqued by this statement of the Sports Minister, James Sangma stood up and asked him to quote the rule book which says that points cannot be raised in the Assembly against another public leader.
