JOWAI: The Movement for Indigenous People’s Rights and Livelihood (MIPRL) on Wednesday questioned Lok Sabha member Vincent H Pala on the Amendment Bill of the Mines and Mineral (Development and regulation)(Amendment) Bill, 2014, saying that his statement caused confusion and false hope amongst many in the coal mining areas of Meghalaya.
“Is it not a fact that the said bill has been passed despite the desire of the Congress party in the Rajya Sabha to return the same to the Select Committee but the party was defeated on the floor of the House?” questioned MIPRL co-chairman Sing Mulieh in a statement on Wednesday.
“What is the position of the two other MPs – P.A. Sangma and Wansuk Syiem and what are the specific sections and exemptions related to mining in Meghalaya?” he further questioned.
He also informed that the MIPRL has decided to write to all the three MPs to ascertain the real situation and the truth of the matter.
The MIPRL also request the Shillong Press Club and the Meghalaya Editors’ and Publishers’ Association to publish the bill referred to by Pala saying that the copies available with them did not reflect the position as stated by the Shillong Lok Sabha member.
