Pranab condoles ex-Minister’s death

SHILLONG: Former Union Minister and Congress leader PR Kyndiah, who passed way on March 26, will be laid to rest on Sunday.
A state funeral will be accorded to late Kyndiah whose body will be laid to rest at Old Cemetery of Cathedral, All Saints, Church of North India (CNI).
Prior to this, the funeral service will take place at his residence at Lower New Colony, Laitumkhrah at 1 pm followed by a Government function at Anthony’s Ground, Don Bosco at 2 pm.
A large number of people including political leaders cutting across party affiliations gathered at the residence of the late leader to pay respect to the departed soul on Saturday.
Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister and Congress leader Nabam Tuki will attend the funeral .
In a condolence message, Tuki recalled the contribution of late Congress leader. ” I cannot forget his initiative and leadership in the landmark decision of changing the tribal nomenclature from the derogatory Daffla to Nyishi in the constitution of India”, Tuki recalled.
UNI adds from Delhi: President Pranab Mukherjee has condoled the passing away of Kyndiah.
In his condolence message to his son, Waibha Kyndiah, the President said, “I am deeply saddened to learn about the passing away of P R Kyndiah, a friend and colleague of long years.
“A distinguished Parliamentarian and veteran Congress leader, Kyndiah served the nation in various capacities during his long public life. As Union Minister in-charge of Tribal Affairs and Development of North Eastern Region (DONER), he initiated a number of measures for the progress and development of the people of the North East. He also made immense contribution as Member of Legislative Assembly of Meghalaya, Minister and acting Chief Minister of Meghalaya and Governor of Mizoram. In his death, the nation has lost an eminent personality.”
