SHILLONG: There seems to be no respite in instances of crimes against the fairer sex in matrilineal Meghalaya with several cases of sexual assault and molestation being reported from across the state.
In the latest such case, unidentified miscreant allegedly assaulted and raped a minor girl at Mullum village in West Jaintia Hills on March 29 after midnight.
Jowai Police said that the mother of the girl had lodged an FIR and police have registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).
The girl is presently in a state of coma in a hospital in Shillong and police are waiting for the medical report of the survivor to proceed further in the case.
