SHILLONG: The accounts of the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) running into at least 10 financial years have not been submitted to the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India for auditing, an official source said.
“We have not received the accounts from JHADC since 2004 thereby making it difficult for us to audit the accounts,” an official with the CAG, Meghalaya, said on Monday.
He, however, admitted that the KHADC and the GHADC used to submit their accounts more regularly as compared to the JHADC.
In the absence of proper auditing of funds, there is lack of transparency on the manner of utilization of the money released to the JHADC both by the state government and the centre.
Reporters made a query in this regard to District Council Affairs Minister H.D.R. Lyngdoh, but in vain as the Minister said that he was not aware of lack of auditing works at the JHADC.
“I am not aware of the matter. I will have to check,” Lyngdoh said.
