Facilitation centres to come up in identified spots
SHILLONG: The state government has identified a total of 18 entry and exit points in the Khasi-Jaintia Hills region and another 23 in Garo Hills region and has proposed setting up of facilitation centres at all the entry and exit points for verification of visitors coming to the state and those on transit.
The report of the sub-committee headed by Addl. DGP S.K. Jain states that detailed instructions were issued to the deputy commissioners and superintendents of police of all the districts requesting them to identify all such entry/ exit points by road/ rail/air on the inter-state border in their respective district along with the details of nature and quantum of average traffic entering/ exiting every day.
The report also states that necessary directive have been issued for identification of adequate land on suitable sites nearest to each entry and exit point for construction of a terminal facilitation centre for carrying out checks for various categories of entrants including area for parking of all kinds of vehicles, facilities of washrooms, waiting areas, tourism centre, food/ refreshment plazas, medical facilities, restrooms for staff of different agencies, etc.
The report also says that some land for construction of dwelling units to allow staff to man the facilitation centres round the clock was also to be factored in.
The areas recommended for setting up the entry and exit points include Malidor in East Jaintia Hills; Saphai, Saitsama, Myntang Tihwieh and Mukroh in West Jaintia Hills; Byrnihat, Borbhuin, 8th Mile, 9th Mile, 12th Mile, Rani Patharkham, Pilangata/ Umtyrnga, Umsiang, Mawlasnai and Umroi Airport in Ri Bhoi and Athiabari, Langpih and Malangkona in West Khasi Hills.
