NONGSTOIN: The Synjuk Nongsynshar Shnong Maweit Area (SNSMA) demanded that Chief Minister Mukul Sangma should “fulfil his promise to construct” the Nongstoin-Maweit road at the earliest.
The Synjuk made the demand during a meeting held recently.
The 35 KM stretch is the only road that connects Maweit to the district headquarters of West Khasi Hills and the deplorable road condition makes it a three-hour journey to Nongstoin.
The matter was also raised in the Assembly recently by Mawshynrut legislator, Witting Mawsor.
Synjuk president, O. Thongni said that the bad shape of the road has brought about untold miseries to people of the area, especially the sick, elderly and pregnant who have to travel to Nongstoin for various purposes.
Thongni added that even though Maweit produced mineral resources including coal, uranium, limestone etc., till date the government has not taken any step to improve the road condition in the area.
