2 NDFB militants killed in encounter in Assam

Guwahati: Two National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Sonitpur district of Assam on Wednesday. Acting on a specific information, a joint operation was launched by troops of Assam Rifles and police at Lakhipathar area, followed by an encounter in which the militants were killed early today, a defence spokesman said. The security forces recovered an AK-47, a magazine, ten rounds of fired cartridges, five rounds of live 7.62 mm ammunition, a Chinese grenade and some personal belongings, they said. The slain militants have been identified as self-styled ‘Deputy Commandant’ Sohiasula and self-styled ‘Sergeant Major’ Ratan, he said. (PTI)

Nagaland Governor greets Phom Nagas on Monyu fest

Kohima:  Nagaland Governor P B Acharya on Wednesday extended his warm greetings to the Phom Naga community on the occasion of Monyu Festival.In a message, the Governor said the Monyu festival marks the end of winter and beginning of summer or monsoon. On occasion of Monyu festival, he appealed to the Phom community to preserve rich and beautiful cultural heritage and also to uphold the peaceful co-existence in the society.”May this festival bring peace and prosperity to the Phom community and strengthen the bond of love and unity among the people,” Mr Acharya wished. NEEPCO official elected to Executive Board of SCOPE

SHILLONG: Satyabrata Borgohain, Director (Personnel), NEEPCO is elected as one of the members in the Executive Board of Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE). He is the first and lone member representing a Public Sector Enterprise from the North Eastern Region. Shri C.S. Verma, CMD,Steel Authority of India is re-elected as the Chairman of the SCOPE and Shri R.G. Ranjan, CMD of Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilizers Ltd. is elected as the Vice Chairman. Along with Shri Borgohain, other 18 leaders from leading Public Sectors Enterprises of the country are elected to the Executive Board of SCOPE for the period 2015-17. Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE) is an apex professional organization representing the Central Government Public Enterprises, some State Enterprises, Banks, and other Institutions as its Members. SCOPE’s objective is to promote excellence in organizations where public investment is involved, in order to enable them to be globally competitive.
