SHILLONG: The minor girl from Mullum village in West Jaintia Hills, who was allegedly assaulted and raped by unidentified miscreants, succumbed to her injuries in a city hospital on Tuesday night.
The girl was allegedly raped  on March 29 after midnight  and police  registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) after mother of the victim filed an FIR with the police.
The girl was admitted to a Shillong hospital in a state of coma.
West Jaintia Hills SP Herbert Lyngdoh said that as per medical report the girl was ‘not raped’ but was ‘sexually assaulted’.
“We are investigating the matter,” he said.
This is not the first instance when a minor girl has been brutally assaulted in such a manner as earlier one lady had lodged a complaint at Mawlai police station that on January 31 one person sexually assaulted the minor girl at NEHU forest, Shillong.
The body of seven-year old girl from Mawlai Kynton Massar, Block C was exhumed after the recent arrest of one Walphang Sun of the same locality for his alleged  involvement in the alleged sexual assault of the girl.
The girl was shifted to Dr. H. Gordon Robert Hospital, where she was declared brought dead.
