Child rights body demands justice for Mullum girl

SHILLONG: The State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) has called for a thorough investigation into the sexual assault of a minor girl from Mullum village West Jaintia Hills leading to her death.
The girl, who was allegedly assaulted and raped by unidentified miscreants, succumbed to her injuries in a city hospital on Tuesday night.
SCPCR chairperson Meena Kharkongor expressed shock over the incident and urged police to bring the culprits to book.
The girl was allegedly raped post midnight on March 29 and police  registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) after the mother of the victim filed an FIR.
