Hailstones hit WKH again, 80 houses damaged

NONGSTOIN: Yet another round of hailstorm accompanied with heavy rainfall hit parts West Khasi Hills District on Thursday afternoon causing moderate damages in several villages.
Over 80 houses having CGI roofing were damaged at Marang Jaidoh, Jaidoh, Nongklung, Nongklungrim, Mawthungkper and Lai Lyngdoh villages in the district.
W.S. Syiemlieh, secretary of Marang Jaidoh village, informed that the hailstorm hit the villages around 1:30 pm followed by heavy rainfall that lasted for almost 30 minutes.
The Nongstoin BDO deputed the local Gram Sevak to assess the damages caused by the hailstorm.
The total estimated loss was not known immediately as the damages to the houses and agricultural crops were being ascertained.
This is the second time that West Khasi Hills has been hit by hailstorm within a span of eight days.
Earlier, on March 25, heavy rain and hailstorm had damaged around 16 houses at Mawrusyiar and Nongritong village in the district.
