Kohima : Mokokchung district on Sunday took the initiative in launching the ‘Swachch Bharat’ (Clean India) campaign in Mokokchung town of Nagaland.
According to a BJP release on Sunday, the Swachch Bharat campaign was launched at the Police Point of Mokokchung, the main square of the town, under the aegis of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha of Mokokchung district and attended by state BJP officials led by general secretary and spokesman, James Vizo and BJP party workers of Mokokchung district.
The campaign also comes in the wake of nomination of state BJP president M Chuba Ao, state executive member Vizopal Chaya and K James Vizo as Ambassadors of Swachch Bharat Abhiyan in the state of Nagaland.
As part of the campaign, the Mokokchung BJYM will be distributing 3,000 brooms on donation basis to offices, schools, shops and household and the fund garnered will go towards construction of a toilet at Dr Imkongliba Memorial Hospital.
Addressing the launching programme, the state BJP general secretary and chief guest of the launching programme, Vizo said the Swachch Bharat campaign should not be construed as a political campaign but a sincere endeavour to spread the importance of cleanliness to all the citizens.He said the Swachch Bharat is also a vital component of development as without healthy citizens and clean environment, other aspects of development and progress are meaningless.
He said the campaign launched by Narendra Modi on October 2, 2014, in Delhi and in Nagaland by Governor PB Acharya would not only make India a cleaner and healthy country but also instil a sense of “nationalism†to all citizens by uniting them with a common mission.
He said people of Mokokchung being the pioneers in religion, sports, music and literacy, it was quite fitting that the district should also lead the way in cleanliness drive and inspire other districts too.
Nagaland BJYM general secretary Mukibur Rahman, appealed to the citizens of Mokokchung to take the Swachh Bharat pledge by devoting at least 100 hours per year, 2 hours per week, to voluntary work for cleanliness.
Terming Mokokchung town as the cleanest town in Nagaland, Rahman lauded the citizens of Mokokchung for leading the way in cleanliness and added “to bring change, we need to be the change.
Mokokchung district BJP president, B. Limawati and district BJYM president Limameren also addressed the party volunteers. (UNI)
