NONGSTOIN: The FKJGP, Nongstoin circle submitted a memorandum to Health Minister AL Hek recently demanding his intervention to improve the health scenario in West Khasi Hills.
Through the memorandum, the federation brought to the notice of Hek the lack of proper facilities in the district civil hospital at Mawkadiang which has fewer doctors and specialists attending to it. The hospital, according to the FKJGP, also lacked a blood bank and necessary equipment needed for treatment of patients.
The lack of proper facilities forced people to visit private hospital outside the district and the State creating innumerable hardships both physically and monetarily, the FKJGP said.
Citing the inconvenience faced by pregnant women who have to travel from Nongstoin and surrounding areas to Mawkadiang for delivery cases, the federation demanded that a maternity ward be set up at Nongstoin CHC.
The FKJGP also stated in the memorandum that the State Government through the Health department should speed up the construction of GNM institute near Mawkadiang Civil Hospital which will be a boon for the district. The FKJGP also urged the Health Minister to ensure the up gradation of Umyiap and Nongkynjang Kynroh sub centres to PHCs for the welfare of the people of the area.
Hek, according to the federation, assured that he will look in to the matter at the earliest.
