SHILLONG: The FKJGP, Mawthadraishan Circle has demanded the State Government to commission at the earliest, the pig breeding farm at Nongkasen in West Khasi Hills.
The FKJGP members aired their demand during a meeting with Animal Husbandry and Veterinary department Director, Dr JS Jyrwa on Tuesday.
The federation members came to meet the official after receiving complaints from the farmers about the non-functioning of the farm which was opened way back in 2010.
However, during the meeting, Dr Jyrwa apprised the FKJGP members of the department’s inability to commission the pig breeding farm at the moment owing to lack of sanctioned posts for the same.
The farm at Nongkasen is currently being manned by eight people (muster rolls) who do not have the expertise to run the project.
Blaming the state government for the current state of affairs of the farm, the federation demanded the appointment of regular staff in the farm to make the set-up fully operational at the earliest.
