Rich tributes paid to a city philanthropist

SHILLONG: Glowing tributes were paid to Late Pradip Choudhury, a well known business magnate and philanthropist of Shillong at a public meeting held here on Tuesday at Rilbong Hindu Dharma Sabha premises. Speaker after speaker recalled the manifold qualities of Choudhury who died at the age of 83 in Kolkata on Monday after a protracted illness.
Representatives from Sri Aurobindo Institute of Indian Culture, Central Puja Committee, Frontier Chamber of Commerce, Bangiya Sahitya Parisad, Keating Road Welfare Association, Jagannath Mandir Opera Hall, Rilbong Sports & Cultural Club, Gitanjali Dance Academy, Sarada Sangha and Matri Mandir Polo Area were present at the condolence meeting which was presided over by Manas Chaudhuri, former MLA.
The speakers were unanimous that Late Pradip Choudhury’s death was truly an irreparable loss for Shillong and recalled how he lent a helping hand to various public institutions all his life.
It was decided that a suitable memorial be created with a view to perpetuating the memory of this Shillongite who spent all his active life in Shillong and devoted much of his time for maintainingpeace and harmony among all sections of people.
Among others who spoke on the occasion were President Frontier Chamber of Commerce O.P. Agarwala, Vice President of CPC P.D.Chokhani, General Secretary of CPC J.L.Das, Dr S.Das, S.K. Chattopadhyaya, P.C.Chakraborty, Uma Purkayastha, Kishan Tibrewala, Rita Ghosh and Debopriya Deb.
The meeting observed a minute’s silence as a mark of respect to the departed soul.
